Saint George Church represents the presence of the Ancient Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in San Diego, California.  It was in the city of Antioch that the followers of Christ were first called Christians (Acts 11:26). Saint Peter established the Church in Antioch, and was the first to preside over the city.  Antioch was the center from which the Christian faith was propagated all over the world (Acts 13:1-9).

This same Antiochian patriarchate is represented in North America by the Archdiocese of North America, and in the western United States and Canada by the Diocese of Los Angeles and the West.
